“And I said to the director, ‘It’s not that your direction is not important and I don’t agree and I want to do my own thing, but this is the best I can do right now.’ But I was like, ‘I’m so sorry - I don’t know what I’m doing out there! I’m trying, short of drooling on myself. “I clearly remember the reaction of my co-workers and they were shocked. I didn’t remember any of the blocking, I just wandered around, probably like someone who had just suffered a severe concussion. I barely made it through the scene with this glazed look. I have no recollection - don’t even ask me what I did. I’m not really sure what I did or didn’t do. So we do our first take, and it’s just he and I in the scene. So I’m trying to play that while inside I’m freaking out because it’s Sting. My character doesn’t know who Sting is, by the way. Fox was a big fan of Sting’s so I have him come and play as a gift for my husband for Christmas. There are no surprises.“The episode was, Michael J. Three seasons in, we love and respect each other so much.

This is so cheesy -and I’m sure every actor says this - but it’s our family. It’s my favorite place to be, and I think all of us would say that. Is it as funny being on set as it is watching the show?
LIFE IN PIECES FULL
I was very sore and tender still, but we’re in full production, and she comes all the time. And then, I went back to work work at four weeks. I went back to work, and I had my first fitting and table read at three and a half weeks out. And because I was so hormonal, I started weeping in the car. However, one of my best friends, Christine Wood, told me she was making these sushi costumes, and that she could make one for Adelaide.

Amazon prime's were sold out, and I was freaking out, and thinking, I’m the worst mom.
LIFE IN PIECES PLUS
Thank you! So, last Saturday one of best friends saw my insta-story where I was frantically going to three costume stores plus Target at 7 am, trying to find instant Halloween costumes. But I’m obsessed with motherhood, I want to have like 19 children-it’s a problem.Īnd she just had her first Halloween! I saw you and your husband were sushi chefs, and she was a sushi. My social life has gone out the window, I just, like, stay home and stare at her. But she also has her witching hour from 5 to 8 pm, and it’s a nightmare. And I was very calm and had a beautiful pregnancy. She’s just so easy and chill, and part of it, I think, is because I mediate a lot, and I worked on my meditation when she was inside of me. So, disclaimer: people are going to hate me for saying this, but she’s a dream. It’s also fun that the kids have their whole storylines now. I’m excited for Matt and Colleen, because now we’re married and navigating family life, and some big questions come up for us: do we start a family? I’m excited to see us settled down. It’s honestly our best season yet, but don’t ever know what’s coming. The show’s going into its third season now. I love seeing Colleen in new situations, and I think this season we see her in a lot of new situations she hasn’t handled before, and the way she handles life is exciting for me. Is there anything about her you’ve been especially excited to watch develop? We’re both just these sunny, optimistic people. I’m kind’ve an earnest, hot mess in my real life. I think what I’m loving is the way that writers have gotten to know me as Angelique, and really incorporated my quirkiness into Colleen. I’ve never played a character that was more me. What aspects of your character you play on Life in Pieces do you enjoy the most? When I very first auditioned in 2010, for this big show, and I had no credits, and the people that were casting me said, you’re so funny, go to this place called Leslie Kahn to just sharpen your turns. I think timing more than anything, which I learned and studied as a child. I also love Bernadette Peters, and I was really into musical theater.

And then in college I was really into Seinfeld and Friends, and I think now I study Julia Louis-Dreyfus-she’s like my number one. I literally watched every single episode of both of those shows. I didn’t know comedy was necessarily what I wanted to do, but I grew up watching I Love Lucy and Three’s Company. Did you always know that comedy was going to be factored into your work? Did you grow up watching any specific comedians? Cabral, who plays the quirky, optimistic Colleen on the show, chatted with T&C to dish about its new season, her favorite comedians, and the newfound adventures of motherhood. The comedy, which unfolds around an extended family and their laugh a minute affairs, co-stars an A-list cast including Colin Hanks, James Brolin, and Angelique Cabral. Back for its third season, the hit CBS sitcom Life in Pieces will premiere this Thursday, November 2nd.
